It has travelled all over the world and wowed thousands. Now Luke Jerram’s internationally acclaimed Museum of the Moon is making its way about Dorset for the first time as part of DORSET MOON; the exciting new arts event for summer 2019. Inside Out Dorset, b-side and Bournemouth Arts By the Sea presents Luke Jerram’s Museum of the Moon as the centrepiece for a full programme of FREE lunar-inspired events, creating an experience that is out of this world.
Measuring seven metres in diameter, the moon features 120dpi detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface. At an approximate scale of 1:500,000, each centimetre of the internally lit spherical sculpture represents 5km of the moon’s surface. Over its lifetime, the Museum of the Moon will be presented in a number of different ways both indoors and outdoors, so altering the experience and interpretation of the artwork. The installation is a fusion of lunar imagery, moonlight and surround sound composition created by BAFTA and Ivor Novello award winning composer Dan Jones.
We were excited to see Dorset Moon at Sherborne Abbey last weekend 5-7 July and look forward to it opening at Weymouth. Like many of the shops and businesses in the town, Girlings celebrated with a moon-themed window!
